Well, I am still feeding the homeless population. And it really has not gotten better. I've been very despondent over this issue because I just can't figure out why we can't get a grip on this situation. Where are the social services for those who can not help themselves? Why is it that most people can not truly see this "invisible population"?
It was the 1998 book "The indigo children: The new kids have arrived" written by Lee Caroll and Jan Tober that sparked interest. In 2002 an icom two way radio earpiece was held on Indigo Children in Hawaii, then in following years Florida and Oregon. The Carrols were no strangers to marketing techniques, as they were a husband and wife team who toured on the "self-help" circuit. Below is a link to an interesting website on Lee Carroll.
Intership icom radio Safety Channel The one is used for ship-to-ship emergency communications to insure safety. The Coast Guard often uses channel 6 during search and rescue missions.
Another good idea for boat equipment (and this may be obvious to some), is to have a GPS tracking device installed. This will make it easier for the Coast Guard to find you after you contact them with your VHF marine radio. A GPS device will alert the Coast Guard to your exact position so that they can find you as quickly as possible.
It's interesting to note that there appears to be very few manufacturers who make an FRS only radio any longer. Mostly, only combination FRS & GMRS handies are being offered new. FRS only handies are available used on eBay, however, and do appear infrequently as NOS (New Old Stock). Icom Business also makes an FRS only walkie-talkie, but it's not inexpensive.
